June 18, 2023

Hey tourist! There are plenty of fantastic places to visit around the world with incredible buildings to visit. However, there are a select few buildings from around the world that take an unusual shape. Architects often pull their design ideas from nature for inspiration, which is most definitely true for these upcoming structures which resemble various parts of the female body. Whether intentional or accidental, these structures are hard to look at without laughing at the striking similarities to the female body. Following are the top structures you won't believe.

Monroe Building

The first stop on this article on female-shaped buildings is up north in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, and is a series of residential condominiums. Finished in 2012, the Absolute World building complex in Ontario’s large city has received quite a reputation for taking the shape of a woman’s body, and as a result, been nicknamed the 'Marilyn Monroe' towers. This project was taken on by Burka Architects and has become one of the most iconic structures in Ontario. With curves providing a skinny-in-the-middle and bust-shaped image, it is no wonder such a structure has received so much attention. Curvy is confident, right?

Qatar’s World Cup Stadium

Some buildings may look a little more suggestive than others, and this next one definitely takes the cake. Qatar’s World Cup Stadium, called the Al-Wakrah Stadium, is a magnificent structure that was completed back in 1983 and has received much criticism for its shape. Although it is a stunning feat of architecture and has an impressive interior design, the stadium looks very much like a female gland from above. With a pinkish-hue and a slit in the roof, one cannot help but draw comparisons. Designed by female architect Zaha Hadid, this building may be more than just one’s simple structure, and perhaps more of a statement for the beauty of the female’s natural reproductive system. Regardless, the shape comparison is unavoidable.

Sheraton Huzhou Hot Spring Resort

Next up on the docket is another fantastic structure that unfortunately takes a shape drastically resembling a female reproductive gland. Sheraton Huzhou Hot Spring Resort is a Chinese building used as a relaxation and conference center for customers and is a truly remarkable structure. With over 280 rooms inside, including a variety of relaxing amenities and conference rooms, this construction is truly great. However, the '0' shape it takes is quite similar to a part of the female body, sometimes called the 'Horseshoe Hotel.' This project was designed by a firm called MAD, and has been running since October 2013. Sitting on the water makes for a great view, until the water breaks that is.

Nuclear has never looked the way this next building does.

San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station

For the next phallically-shaped structure on the list, it's California’s San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station. This now-closed nuclear plant located in southern California on the Pacific coast ran until the last unit was decommissioned in June 2013. This station makes the list due to the two large and round structures that make up the nuclear plant. Both buildings, with tips on top and side-by-side, make for a very suggestive shape reminiscent of a nurturing body part woman have. With such a convincing shape it’s hard not to chuckle, no matter how childish it may be.

The right angle gives this building a truly unique and feminine look.

CCTV/CMG Building

Coming up on the list of buildings resembling the female body is the CMG and CCTV headquarters. The building is comprised of two major organizations in China and is an almost 768-foot structure completed in 2012. Although a competitive loop shape makes for a cool design, if one were to look at the construction from a particular angle they will most definitely be able to identify the shape as similar to the female reproductive system. Not only does the gap make for a suggestive shape, but Chinese critics have also critiqued the building is similar to a woman in a suggestive position.

San Francisco MoMA

Coming up is another great structure from the United States, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. This structure is a beautiful work of art itself, and has become an iconic structure in the city and an internationally recognized collection of modern art. Established in 1935 by Mario Botta, there is a collection of over 33,000 works of art and has made for a cultural hub. However, when looking at the building from an aerial view, there is a rising oval-shaped construction that takes a similar shape to the female reproductive system. Although subtle and perhaps unintentional, the shape is clear. But one should not forget this is an art museum, and most artwork is often suggestive and inspired by natural forces.

It's time for space to take over with this next building.

Norman Foster’s Spaceport

Following is the next building to make the list for suggestive structures from around the world, and is a place of significance in the world of space exploration. Called the Norman Foster Spaceport, this New Mexico site is a private spaceport authority building constructed as a result of winning an international competition. Although it is famous for being the first private spaceport on Earth, it has also received some attention for having a suggestive shape, especially for those who observe it from an aerial view. Originally the shape was designed to resemble a traditional spacecraft, the aerial view also looks much like a particular female body part. They missed the mark on that one!

Capping the list of suggestive buildings, surprisingly, is a cathedral. Continue reading to learn more about it.

The Cathedral of Christ the Light

Last but not least, this final structure from across the world caps the list of buildings that 'bare' a striking similarity to the female body. The cathedral of Christ the Light, located in Oakland, California, is a large cathedral center and is the first cathedral built entirely in the 21st century. With a stunning interior design which uses natural light and wooden accents to bring religion to life, the exterior embodies something else. From the outside of the building, the structure looks like the female reproductive part and has been subject to lots of funny jokes. A great building with a funny twist!
